Getting ready for retirement

Here are some important dates you’ll want to know to make the transition easy. You should start getting organized as early as nine months before your planned retirement date.

Important Dates Before Retirement

Tip

You may be able to increase your pension by purchasing periods of pensionable service where you were not actively contributing to the Plan, such as on parental leave. To check, visit My Pension Resource > Purchase of Pensionable Service. You can only purchase pensionable service while you are an active member of the Plan.

6-9 months before retirement

Notify your manager of your retirement date. Submit your request through My Pension Resource or the WISE Trust Pension Contact Centre. Ensure your personal information is up to date on your employers HR System.

Receive your retirement package in the mail from the WISE Trust Pension Contact Centre.

4 months to retirement

Attend a retirement education session, if available.

2 months

2 months to retirement

Return all your documents no later than the first of the month before your retirement date to start your pension on time.
